Huntington Beach-based fast casual Stacked Restaurants LLC named Craig Carlyle, a former senior executive at Irvine-based Yard House USA Inc., its first chief operating officer.
Stacked has five locations including one in OC and all in Southern California, and is aiming for 20 locations in five years including outside the state, Chief Executive Paul Motenko told the Business Journal.
Motenko and Stacked board member Jerry Hennessey took Huntington Beach-based BJ’s Restaurants Inc. public 22 years ago, left as co-CEOs of the casual dining chain, and co-founded Stacked in 2011. The new venture takes build-your-own fast casualness to the heights, using tabletop-technology for customers to craft burgers, pizza, sandwiches, salads, and mac-and-cheese creations.
It’s No. 35 on the Business Journals OC-based restaurants list with $19 million in systemwide sales. Yard House, a unit of Darden Restaurants Inc. (NYSE: DRI) in Orlando, is No. 6 and BJ’s (Nasdaq: BJRI) is third-largest, behind Taco Bell Corp. in Irvine and Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (Nasdaq: CMG) in Newport Beach.
Carlyle was with Yard House for 20 years, including two years as president.
