Irvine-based Ruby’s Diner Inc., operator of a chain of 1940s-style diners, plans to open its first drive-in restaurant in Anaheim this spring.
Ruby’s said last week it plans to open the drive-in at an historic site in downtown Anaheim.
Plans call for an old-fashioned outdoor carhop with 12 drive-in spaces with roller skating servers and a rotating reel of 1940s movies.
The restaurant is planned for a renovated, historic building known as Five Points on Lincoln Avenue.
The building, constructed in 1928, once was the city’s westernmost commercial area with shops and offices used by the original Anaheim settlers.
The 4,100-square foot restaurant is set to have a retro roadhouse look, featuring mahogany woods, leatherette booths and 1940s-inspired light fixtures.
“We’re honored to take part in preserving this historically significant corner of Anaheim, especially since we have been based in Southern California for over 27 years,” said Doug Cavanaugh, chief executive of Ruby’s.
Ruby’s Five Points Drive-In is expected to open at end of March or beginning of April, the company said.
