New Boss at Accounting Firm RSM Itching to Grow

RSM US LLP named Paul Short as its new managing partner for its Irvine office.

Short replaced Gretchen Valentine, who is now leading the company’s tax consultancy practice for the west region and who will continue working in the Irvine office.

RSM, which had 157 employees at its Irvine office as of June, is looking to hire “talent at every function at every level,” Short said in an interview. He’s aiming for the firm, which ranked eighth among accounting firms in Orange County by employee size, to be among the top four.

“I’m a growth-oriented, market-facing guy,” Short said. “My goal is to absolutely dominate this marketplace.”

Short said he sees a big opportunity among mid-market companies with revenue between $50 million to $1 billion.

Short, who joined RSM last year, previously spent 23 years at KPMG LLP.
