Hines Growers Inc. will close its San Juan Capistrano location effective Oct. 1, a move that affects 115 workers, a California EDD Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing said.
Hines was a wholesale grower of plants that ran as an LLC with a half-dozen locations totaling several thousand acres in four states. It entered bankruptcy in 2010 and eventually sold its land and operations to Color Spot Nurseries, which now runs the San Juan Capistrano facility.
Color Spot is based in Temecula; messages to the company there weren’t returned.
Company information online said Color Spot produces about “2,500 varieties of live plants, including bedding plants, shrubs, flowering potted plants, ground cover, and vegetables.”
