Irvine-based N2 Imaging Systems LLC was awarded a five-year, $81 million Defense Department contract to develop and manufacture sniper scopes.
It will provide the first clip-on thermal weapon scope developed for Army snipers to enhance target accuracy in limited-vision environments.
The company designs and makes infrared imaging systems, optical and advanced sensor systems, and cameras for military and commercial uses from its headquarters near Jamboree Road and the Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway.
N2 was bought late last year on undisclosed terms by United Technologies Corp., a Farmington, Conn.-based conglomerate with $56 billion in sales of elevator, aerospace, defense, heating and electronic security systems, and other products.
