OC Unemployment Rose to 4.8% in July

OC lost 7,600 non-farm jobs in July

The unemployment rate in Orange County was 4.8% in July,  up from a revised 4.5 percent in June.

That  compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 6.1% for California and 4.6% for the nation during the same period.

Government, driven by a drop in local educational services, led the OC declines with 10,200 jobs gone, according to figures released by the California Employment Development Department.

Private education and health services added 1,700 jobs, leading the gains shown by six industry sectors.

Total non-farm employment decreased from just under 1.7 million to almost 1.69 million,  a loss of 7,600 jobs in July.
