Most OC Carmakers Best US Pace in October

Three of the four Orange County-based automakers beat the national sales pace for new vehicles in October, according to New Jersey-based market researcher Autodata Corp.

U.S. auto sales were up 13.6% for the month, adding 1.45 million cars and light trucks, and are on track to reach 18.24 million for the year.

Hyundai Motor America in Fountain Valley, with 60,005 units sold, was up 19.8% from a year earlier. Sales of the South Korea-based Hyundai Motor Co. subsidiary are up 5% so far this year to 638,195 cars and SUVs.

Kia Motors America Inc. in Irvine, part of Hyundai Motor Group, reported selling 50,044 cars and SUVs, up 12% from a year earlier, its best October ever, and its sixth straight month of sales records. Its year-to-date sales total 526,024, up 7.4%.

Mazda North American Operations in Irvine was up 35.4% to 25,451 vehicles, its best October since 1994. The automaker’s year-to-date sales added up to 267,158, up 2.9% from same 10-month period last year.

Cypress-based Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. sold 7,426 vehicles, up 19.8%. It has sold 80,683 so far this year, a 25% uptick over the same period in 2014.

U.S. auto dealers have sold 14.5 million vehicles so far this year, a 5.8% increase compared with the same 10-month period last year.
