Some of Orange County’s largest automakers continued this year’s bounce back with strong sales in May.
Fountain Valley-based Hyundai Motor America Inc. last month rose 56% from the year-ago period to 90,017 vehicles. May represented a new monthly record for the third straight month for Hyundai.
Kia America of Irvine said it sold 80,298 vehicles in May, up 75% from a year ago. The figure bests the monthly record made in April and marks the third consecutive record month for sales.
Irvine-based Mazda North American Operations sold 42,187 vehicles, an increase of 69.2% from a year earlier. It was the highest monthly volume recorded by the automaker since March of 1994 when it sold 41,145 vehicles.
Fountain Valley luxury automaker Genesis Motor America Inc. reported 3,728 vehicles sold, a jump of 176% from the year-ago period. The GV80 SUV saw the highest sales volume during the month with 2,037 sold.
Irvine electric vehicle makers Karma Automotive LLC and Rivian LLC do not currently report monthly sales figures.
