The funds will help OCBR launch Stop Short of Addiction, a program designed to teach at-risk children about drug and alcohol addiction, and support Shortstop, a juvenile crime diversion program.
The Taco Bell Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana held a Toys for Tots drive at its first annual birthday bash. Donors of toys valued at more than $10 received $2 off admission to the science center during the celebration. In addition, to thank local residents for their support and to encourage new visitors, the science center is offering free admission to all residents of Santa Ana on the first Monday of every month.
The S. Mark Taper Foundation donated $35,000 to provide five years of funding for a scholarship to a Guardian Scholar. The Guardian Scholars program, developed by Cal State Fullerton and Orangewood Children’s Foundation, is designed to support young people who are exiting the foster care system and striving to earn a college degree. Cal State Fullerton accepted seven new scholars through the program.
Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant raised $5,000 at its grand opening in Brea. The funds benefited the Boys and Girls Club of La Habra/Brea.
Over 700 participants raised nearly $100,000 at the 1999 Goodwill Walk ‘n’ Roll, held by Goodwill Industries of Orange County. Insignia ESG, Costa Mesa, was honored for raising more than $26,000. The funds will support Goodwill’s efforts to enhance education, training and employment programs for people with disabilities.
