Tetra Tech Boosts OC Presence Via Enterprise Automation Buy

Pasadena-based consulting and engineering services firm Tetra Tech Inc., which counts a large OC presence, has acquired Irvine’s Enterprise Automation (EA), which specializes in water and wastewater services for municipal and commercial customers.

“EA enables us to further expand our high-end digital water consulting practice by adding EA’s talented team of digital automation and advanced data analytics consultants,” Dan Batrack, Tetra Tech chairman and CEO, said in announcing the acquisition on Oct. 27.

Enterprise Automation handles “digital water transformation consulting services, including control systems integration, automation, advanced data analytics, platform virtualization and cyber security,” according to the announcement.

Its staff builds critical systems for both municipal and commercial customers.

Established in 1998, EA says it’s an industry leader in controls system integration. EA ranked No. 9 on this year’s Business Journal Best Places to Work in Orange County in the small company category.

The acquisition “expands our municipal digital water business especially for the critical water system needs throughout Southern California,” according to Jill Hudkins, division president of Tetra Tech’s, Resilient and Sustainable Infrastructure unit.

“We look forward to working with EA to support our clients with their systems modernization and digital transformation programs,” Hudkins told the Business Journal.

Terms of the acquisition were undisclosed.

EA Client Base

Tetra Tech (Nasdaq: TTEK), which has a local office in Irvine, is a provider of consulting and engineering services for projects worldwide, saying it can resolve complex problems involving water, renewable energy and international development.

Tetra Tech ranked No. 1 on the Business Journal’s annual list of environmental consultants, reporting $72.8 million in OC environmental billings in 2020.

Companywide, it reported fiscal year 2020 revenue fell about 4% to $3 billion. It has 21,000 employees companywide, with 242 in Orange County as of February.

“By joining Tetra Tech, we will expand our client base and geographic reach, while simultaneously providing new opportunities for our employees,” said EA co-founder and Principal Josh Riley.

“We will leverage multidisciplinary teams to provide exceptional and reliable results for every project and support our clients on their digital transformation journeys,” Riley added.

The water and wastewater industry makes up 70% of the automation consulting and systems integration work that EA performs, according to the company’s website.

EA provides industrial control and automation system consulting and engineering services for process industries including water processing and distribution, chemical, and life sciences, among others.
