PBS SoCal in Costa Mesa and sister station KCET are touting a new look for the digital age.
The stations, along with satellite service Link TV, form the Public Media Group of Southern California and together have undergone a brand refresh that involves new logos, a revamped website and improved streaming capabilities online and through the app, among other things. The updates are in direct response to the growth that’s only expected to continue for streaming.
The rebrand comes at a time when streaming services such as Disney +, Netflix (which hit 200 million subscribers this month) and others are dramatically altering the media landscape.
The move now emphasizes digital first and on demand as focus points for the stations, which have already noted the shift in their own viewership with one-third of their audiences streaming their content.
Public Media Group of Southern California CEO and President Andrew Russell noted in a statement the rebrand and enhancements online “set us up for a bright future in a digital age where national and local PBS content is front and center, alongside programming from Disney +, Apple TV, Netflix and other streaming leaders.”
Public Media Group of Southern California formed following the merger between the two stations and Link TV in 2018. The group has seven broadcast channels with a reach of 18 million viewers spread across 10 Southern California counties.
