Automakers didn’t have the benefit of the typical Labor Day weekend ramp to tuck into their August sales reports, leaving their year-over-year comparisons down.
Fountain Valley-based Hyundai Motor America Inc.’s August sales fell 8% from a year earlier to 58,361 vehicles. The SUV and crossover segments continue to do well for the company with strong Palisade and Kona sales.
Irvine-based Kia Motors America Inc.’s August sales were down 6.1% to 57,015, with the Forte compact sedan notching the greatest volume in units sold for the month.
Mazda North American Operations of Irvine was off 5.1% to 26,089. Sales of the CX-5 crossover led the automaker’s August volume.
Genesis Motor America Inc. sales fell 22.6% to 1,360. The Fountain Valley-based luxury brand is still on track to release the 2021 G80 sedan and its first SUV, the 2021 GV80, this year.
