Gallegos Spotlights Storytellers

Huntington Beach-based agency Gallegos United and its sister production agency, Luna United, tapped South Korean artist Kim Jung Gi for its latest work for client Xfinity, Comcast’s video and high-speed internet provider.

A 60-second spot titled “Storytellers,” which also includes an abbreviated 30-second version, was released last week as part of Comcast’s sponsorship of the Center for Asian American Media’s 37th annual film festival, known as CAAMFest.

The video shows Kim drawing in real time on a massive canvas, highlighting Asian Americans that contribute to the film and TV industries, both in front of and behind the camera. As Kim completes his drawing, the video ends with the lines, “Bringing an idea to life takes many talented people. We celebrate the Asian American storytellers leading the way.”

Gallegos Executive Creative Director Dino Spadavecchia said the agency is “rooted” in representing the country’s diversity through pop culture and storytelling.

“Collaborating with [Kim] on this project to shine a light on the many contributions that Asian Americans bring to film and storytelling has been a tremendous honor,” Spadavecchia said in a statement.

Kim, who has a mural at the headquarters of L.A.-based Riot Games, is known not only for his comic book illustrations but for his ability to live draw, or drawing from memory and imagination without an initial sketch.

The video was shown on opening night last week prior to the film screenings and will be shared online.
