Midday Stock Roundup

The S&P 500 rose 0.1% in midday trading to 2,506.90.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.2% to 22,379.78.

The NASDAQ climbed 0.1% to 6,461.32.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond increased 0.1% to 2.24%.

The price of gold fell 0.1% to $1,310.

TECHNOLOGY

Costa Mesa’s Veritone Inc. (Nasdaq: VERI) jumped 33% to $45.36 and a $683 million market cap. Veritone executives this week are in Amsterdam for IBC2017, a major global conference for media professionals. Also, Jefferies’ analyst James Kisner recently wrote that smaller companies like Veritone can make a mark with more cost effective ways to rationalize artificial intelligence than expensive solutions from companies like IBM. Veritone shares have jumped six-fold since a favorable mention last month in Barron’s and most recently in Seeking Alpha, the online, crowd-sourced content service on the financial markets.

Newport Beach’s Acacia Research Corp. (Nasdaq: ACTG) climbed 12% to $4.55 and a $230 million market cap. The shares of Acacia, which owns 31% of Veritone, have climbed about 61% since its 52-week low in August.
