Vanguard U. to Get $2.6M Grant

Vanguard University in Costa Mesa will receive $2.57 million over five years from the U.S. Department of Education to “strengthen and expand educational opportunities for Hispanic and low-income students.”

The money is part of a $51 million program involving 95 other institutions; Vanguard said it was the only local recipient.

“Hispanics soon will represent nearly one in three American workers,” said Michael J. Beals, Vanguard’s president. “We’re committed to helping educate these emerging leaders.”

Vanguard is a faith-based liberal arts school. It’s among the 20 highest-ranked schools for military veterans and economic diversity in U.S. News & World Report surveys, the university said.
