San Clemente-based Oggi’s Pizza and Brewing Co. plans to mine the fast-casual trend as it also expands its full-service restaurants.
A smaller, fast-casual Oggi’s Express replaced a full-service location at the Village at Orange this month, while full-service sites are planned for south Orange County and Upland, plus three in the Bay Area.
The company wants five express locations this year in Orange County and San Diego, where the first opened last year.
“We’re not replacing our full-service Oggi’s—we introduced a new concept,” said Vice President Estella Ferrera.
The 23-year-old chain has 18 locations, with one each in Orange, Tustin, Anaheim and Fullerton. Its 2013 systemwide sales were about $30 million, according to a Business Journal estimate.
Oggi’s Express serves build-your-own pizzas, wings, salads and craft beer. The company also runs Left Coast Brewing Co. in San Clemente.
A full-service Oggi’s franchisee fee is $50,000, with 7% marketing and royalty costs and an average $1.1 million to build.
Express locations come with a $25,000 fee, 7% royalty and marketing costs, and about $500,000 in full startup expenses.
