San Clemente Device Maker Gets FDA Clearance

San Clemente-based VertiFlex Inc. said that it has received Food and Drug Administration clearance for two spinal implant devices.

VertiFlex makes less-invasive medical devices for treating a range of spinal diseases.

Regulators cleared VertiFlex’s Univise Spinous Process Fixation device and the Totalis Direct Decompression device. The company said that the two devices can assist surgeons performing lumbar spine decompressions.

VertiFlex is a venture-backed company that was founded in 2005. Investors include San Francisco-based Aberdare Ventures and Alta Partners, along with Stamford, Conn.-based Thomas, McNerney & Partners.
