How big is the Disneyland expansion and other redevelopment going on in Anaheim? The five-year project, which is in the final stages, ranks among the biggest U.S. public and private developments. In all, the 1,100-acre project totals a $5 billion investment.
The figure includes $3.25 billion for Walt Disney Co.’s second park, California Adventure, an expanded convention center, landscaping, and road and freeway improvements. Disney is kicking in $1.4 billion, while Anaheim, Caltrans and other public agencies are funding the balance. There’s another nearly $2 billion in related developments, the renovation of Edison International Field, the proposed Gotcha Glacier sports facility and hotels.
The project is expected to generate about 14,000 jobs. Anaheim is looking for a big boost in visitors and convention business from the project (see story, page 8).
The projects listed here are a sampling of what’s under way in other parts of the country that are in the same ballpark as what’s being done in Anaheim.
