Vanguard Makes Ismael López Medel Permanent Business School Dean

Has served as interim dean since last October

Costa-Mesa-based Vanguard University has appointed Ismael López Medel as permanent dean of the Patty Arvielo School of Business and Management.

Medel has served as interim dean of the business school since last October after Founding Dean Tom Arnold stepped down for undisclosed reasons.

“Dr. Medel has already demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision and a deep commitment to our mission,” Ryan Hartwig, provost and chief academic officer of Vanguard, said in a statement.

Medel joined Vanguard in fall 2025 as professor and chair of the department of communication.

Prior to Vanguard, he served was a professor at Azusa Pacific University for a decade, where he founded the public relations program and led the department of communication and department of digital and strategic marketing.
