UCI Health Lays Off 150 Employees

Announces restructuring amid headwinds

UCI Health today announced that it’s laying off about 150 employees, or 1%, of its staff as part of a restructuring to ensure it can “continue meeting the evolving needs of the communities it serves.”

The academic health system, which serves 5.6 million people across Southern California, cited “a variety of headwinds,” including shifts in federal funding and changes to insurance reimbursements, as reason for the layoffs.

“We approach this moment with respect and care, feeling deeply grateful for our co-workers’ vital contributions to our community and those we serve,” Chad Lefteris, chief executive and president of UCI Health, said in a statement.

Affected employees will receive financial support, job placement services and priority consideration for current open positions, according to UCI Health.

UCI Health reported having 14,108 full- and part-time employees as of last month.
