Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics Inc. of Laguna Beach said Monday it raised $5 million in a second round of funding.
NBGI Ventures, a London-based firm, led Advanced’s investment.
Advanced makes catheter-based devices for treating various kinds of cardiac arrhythmias, or irregular heartbeat, such as atrial fibrillation.
Its devices work by advancing a catheter into a patient’s heart to selectively ablate certain areas of tissue in order to prevent the spread of electrical signals that give rise to the arrhythmia.
The company, which was founded in 2007, said it was going to use the money to commercialize its devices in Europe.
Last year, Advanced received an undisclosed equity investment from Hansen Medical Inc., a Bay Area medical device maker.
Hansen invested in Advanced in order to secure rights to some of Advanced’s patents for certain robotic applications.
