Providence St. Joseph in $100M Mental Health Effort

The newly formed Providence St. Joseph Health said today it is launching a $100 million effort toward improving mental healthcare in communities it serves.

Providence St. Joseph Health plans to establish the Institute of Mental Health and Wellness. The institute’s services will be coordinated out of its system office in Renton, Wash., but offered across its seven-state geography.

Providence St. Joseph Health is made up of Irvine-based St. Joseph Health and Providence Health and Services, based in Renton.

An affiliation between the two healthcare systems was recently approved by state regulators, clearing the way for the two entities to combine as Providence St. Joseph Health, with a total of 50 hospitals along with various other clinics, physician groups, and other assets.

Providence St. Joseph Health will be based in Renton.

It will have a system office in Irvine to oversee Orange County, where St. Joseph Health operates St. Joseph Hospital-Orange; St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton; and Mission Hospital, with campuses in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach.

St. Joseph Health said that its new collaboration with Providence will not affect St. Joseph Hoag Health, the regional delivery network it created in 2012 with Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, with campuses in Newport Beach and Irvine.
