The S&P 500 was up 0.45% to 1,516 in midday trading Friday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.31% to 13,988, while the Nasdaq rose 0.91% to 3,194.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was up 0.67% to 1.96%.
The price of gold was off 0.25% to $1,666 per ounce.
Shares of Huntington Beach-based action sports apparel maker Quiksilver Inc. continued to climb, up about 3% to $7 to a market value of $1.1 billion. They’re up about up 8% for the week, and 45% since last month’s announcement that Chief Executive Bob McKnight would step down from the post and remain executive chairman, tapping Andy Mooney for the CEO’s job.
Irvine chipmaker Broadcom Corp. rose about 2% to $33 for a market value of $18.9 billion.
Shares of Irvine disk drive maker Western Digital Corp. rose about 2% to $49 for a market value of $11.7 billion.
Seal Beach-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. was up about 3% to $13 for a market value of $1.1 billion.
