The Nasdaq was up 0.44% to 3,190 in midday trading Friday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.21% to 13,625.
The S&P 500 was up 0.27% to 1,464.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was off 0.51% to 1.77%.
The price of gold rose 0.55% to $1,780 per ounce.
Anaheim drug maker Questcor Pharmaceuticals Inc. continued to rebound from Wednesday's steep decline with shares up about 6% to $32. That comes a day after Questcor Chief Executive Don Bailey said insurer Aetna Inc.'s plans to limit coverage of the company’s flagship drug would not negatively impact the company. Questcor had a market value of about $2 billion.
Shares of Irvine-based homebuilder Standard Pacific Corp. were up about 5% to $8. The homebuilder had a market value of about $2.7 billion.
