The Nasdaq rose 0.26% to 3,057 in midday trading Friday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.45% to 13,059.

The S&P 500 rose 0.26% to 1,403.

The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was off 2.22% to 1.58%.

The price of gold was up 1.81% to $1,683.40.

Shares of Newport Beach-based patent licensing company Acacia Research Corp. were up about 3% to $26 for a recent market value of $1 billion. Acacia said Thursday it had reached an agreement in patent litigation involving one of its subsidiaries and AOL Inc.

Newport Beach-based specialty chemical maker American Vanguard Corp. was up 4% to $29. American Vanguard has a market value of about $813 million.

Drug maker Avanir Pharmaceuticals Inc. of Aliso Viejo was down 4% to $3 for a recent market value of $444 million.

Irvine-based Impac Mortgage Holdings Inc. was up 15% to $6. Impac has a market value of about $47 million.
