Yokohama Tire Back as Clippers’ Sponsor

Yokohama Tire Corp. and the Los Angeles Clippers have reached an agreement for the Fullerton-based tire manufacturer to reinstate its sponsorship of the team.

Half of the revenue for Yokohama Tire’s sponsorship of the team through the rest of the 2014 NBA playoffs will go to NBA-sponsored charitable organizations, dedicated to anti-discrimination and tolerance efforts.

“Yokohama applauds NBA Commissioner Adam Silver’s leadership and actions by banning Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life from any association with the team or NBA,” Andrew Briggs, Yokohama’s director of marketing and product planning said in a news release. “With the Clippers’ agreement, we have found a way to continue moving forward and give back to the community and our fellow Clipper fans.”

Yokohama and Irvine-based Kia Motors America Inc. cut ties with team on Monday in the wake of owner Donald Sterling’s alleged racist rant caught on tape.

Kia, while still holding off on advertising, said in a statement it “appreciates and wholeheartedly endorses Commissioner Silver’s decisive action related to the offensive remarks,” and looks “forward to a positive resolution and continuing our relationships within the NBA community, including our league and team sponsorship and our personal ties to Blake Griffin.”
