University of California-Irvine said at its annual UCI Medal Awards ceremony Saturday that it had reached its goal of $1 billion in gifts and pledges for a 10-year capital campaign that started in 2005.
The campaign has brought funding for numerous projects at the campus, including 500 scholarships and fellowships and 50 endowed academic chairs. Funding has also gone to UCI’s endowment, which has more than tripled to about $500 million through the campaign.
The campaign covered five areas—energy and the environment, global leadership, health, learning and the mind, and student support—the school said.
UCI Chancellor Howard Gillman said in a statement the school has progressed in each of these areas during the 10 years.
Some 113,000 donors gave during the campaign.
First Foundation Bank executive vice president Douglas Freeman chaired the effort.
