True Drinks Adds East Coast Distribution Deal

Irvine-based True Drinks Inc. has signed distribution agreement with ShopRite, a Keasbey, N.J.-based supermarket chain.

True Drinks, which has market value of about $10 million, makes health-oriented flavored water and energy drinks. Its other distributors include large grocers and other retail chains including Walgreens.

ShopRite is a part of Wakefern Food Corp., a retailer-owned cooperative. Wakefern Food’s members own and operate 250 ShopRite supermarkets and more than 50 Price Rite grocery stores in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Delaware. The members combined for $14.1 billion in sales for the fiscal year ending September 28, 2013.

“Shop Rite is a true grocery icon and is a perfect fit for AquaBall, being that they are focused on healthy living and providing their loyal customer base with ‘better for you’ alternatives,” Kevin Sherman, chief marketing officer for True Drinks, said in a news release. “I am proud to be able to count ShopRite as one of our partners.”

The metro New York market is a key focus for True Drinks in 2014, said Jason Dorfman, national director of sales for True Drinks.

“ShopRite advances our efforts as it relates to general presence, product trial and organic brand growth within this region,” he said.
