The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.17% to 16,578.33, while the Nasdaq was up 0.18% to 4,058.81.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 1.11% to 2.63%.
The price of gold fell 0.08% to $1,286.70 per ounce.

Newport Beach-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. jumped about 15% to $10.18 for a market value of $914.73 million. The company reported better-than-expected quarterly revenue on Thursday.
HEALTHCARE
Aliso Viejo-based drugmaker Avanir Pharmaceuticals Inc. was up about 6% to $4.86 for a market value of $740.14 million. The company’s shares are up about 6% since reporting March quarter results after market close Tuesday that included a narrowed loss.
