Irvine-based Consumer Portfolio Services Inc. (Nasdaq: CPSS) jumped as much as 54% following an all-cash buyout offer from Dallas-based Auto Experience Inc. for $135 million. After initially climbing as high as $5.12, shares settled around $4.70, an indication the deal might not occur. The firm, which purchases retail installment contracts from dealerships, funds contract purchases and services contracts over their lives, now sports a $105 million market cap.
Resources Connection Inc. (Nasdaq: RGP), an Irvine-based finance, human resources and IT services firm, saw its shares fall 4.5% to $11.73 with a $380 million market cap. Yesterday, the firm reported quarterly revenue of $147 million, down 14% compared to the same period a year ago, and missed the average analyst estimate of $150 million.
