Midday Stock Roundup

The market was up after the ADP National Employment report showed that U.S. private employers increased their hiring in September by 749,000 jobs, higher than the 650,000 estimate of economists.

The S&P 500 jumped 1.4% to 3,381.14 in midday trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 1.8% to 27,945.36, while the Nasdaq climbed 1.2% to 11,222.52.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond jumped 7.1% to 0.691%.

Oil climbed 1.6% to $39.91.

The price of gold fell 0.1% to $1,901.

MEDICAL DEVICES

Shares of Edwards Lifesciences Corp. (NYSE: EW) climbed 3% to $80.66 and a $50 billion market cap, the largest in Orange County. Shares have climbed 8.2% in the past four trading sessions.

Masimo Corp. (Nasdaq: MASI) rose 2.1% to $237.23 a share with a $13.1 billion market cap. Masimo, in a court filing, accused Apple Inc. of trying to delay a legal fight over allegedly stolen blood-oxygen monitoring technology in its latest watch so it can gain a more dominant share of the smartwatch market, Bloomberg reported yesterday.
