Midday Stock Roundup

Indexes rose after President Trump indicated a deal with China is close.

The S&P climbed 1.4% to 2,978.4 in midday trading Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1.4% to 26,858.6, while the Nasdaq jumped 1.6% to 8,079.

The yield on a 10-year bond was up 5.4% to 1.75%

Crude oil was up 1.6% to $54.41.

Gold was down 0.7% to $1,490.

TECHNOLOGY

Shares of Acacia Research Corp. (Nasdaq: ACTG) were up 8.1% to $2.78. The Irvine-based patent licensing company had a recent market value of $139 million. The shares are still 17% below their 52-week high.

AGRICULTURE

Newport Beach-based agricultural products firm American Vanguard Corp. (NYSE: AVD) was up 4.7% to $15.41 as general optimism holds in continued U.S.-China trade talks. American Vanguard, which has market value of $465 million, is still down about 27% from its 52-week high in March.
