The S&P was up 0.3% in midday trading to 2,984.5.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.5% to 26,855.2, while the Nasdaq was up 0.1% to 8,128.3.
The yield on the 10-year bond was off about 1.5% to 1.54%.
Crude oil was up 0.6% to $56.64.
Gold was down 0.7% to $1,515.
HEALTHCARE
Shares of Tustin-based Avid Bioservices Inc. (Nasdaq: CDMO) were off about 20% to $5.64, a day after the company reported a wider fiscal first quarter loss than expected. The contract pharmaceutical manufacturer had a market value of $317 million.
Edwards Lifesciences Corp. (NYSE: EW) were up about 1% to about $228. The Irvine-based company received a positive report from Zacks, which cited continued growth of its transcatheter aortic valve replacement and recent FDA approvals. Orange County’s largest medical device maker has a recent market capitalization of $47 billion.
