Chapman University students and faculty are working with Lake Forest-based 3D printing and supplies firm MatterHackers to make face shields for healthcare workers.
The Fowler School of Engineering, Schmid College of Science and Technology and Grand Challenge Initiative are involved, printing several hundred face shields a week; more than 1,000 have been shipped to hospitals in Southern California.
The impact is satisfying but, “I’d like to think we are simply staying true to … fundamental lessons we teach our students,” said Erik Linstead, a Chapman associate professor of engineering and computer science.
MatterHackers maintains an online hub offering resources and tips for digital manufacturers interested in making supplies and healthcare workers requesting help.
