Hyundai Motor America Inc. in Fountain Valley will recall 42,925 vehicles with faulty brake lights, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recall affects 41,650 Hyundai Genesis sedans from the model years 2009-2011, and 1,150 Hyundai Equus vehicles from the model year 2011.
A circuit failure is preventing the brake lights from illuminating, increasing the risk for a rear-end crash.
There are no reports of accidents so far, according to NHTSA.
Hyundai will notify owners during the first quarter of 2015, and dealers will repair the brake light switch circuit free of charge.
