Airport traffic is up at John Wayne Airport on fewer flights.
Passenger traffic rose 3% in May to 943,000 year-over-year; traffic is up 2% this year to 4.4 million.
There were about 26,500 flights to and from the OC airport last month, down 0.2% from May 2018. Through the first five months of the year, flights decreased 1.3% to 123,400.
General aviation, about 68% of total aircraft operations in May, decreased 3.1% to 18,000 flights.
Commercial flights ticked up half a point, to about 7,900. Commuter flights—scheduled flights on planes with fewer than 70 seats—continue large gains following the launch of JetSuiteX last year, surging 760% to 500 flights in May.
International passengers increased 6% last month to 19,700 while flights were flat at 186.
The three busiest carriers in May by passenger count were Southwest Airlines at about 325,000; American Airlines with 153,600; and United Airlines with 146,600.
