Into Action at Agenda

Spring was in the air even as the dog days of August took hold, as the two-day, action-sports apparel industry trade show Agenda hit the Long Beach Convention Center.

The show attracted more than 500 brands, which rolled out their spring lines for the more than 12,000 retail buyers and members of the media in attendance Aug. 1 and 2. Key pieces focused on technical innovations in board shorts among other clothing items, along with artist and athlete collaborations.

Agenda, organized by Los Angeles-based Agenda LLC, is the largest trade show for action-sports apparel brands on the West Coast and is held twice a year in California in addition to New York and Tokyo.

Local brands, as in previous years, had a big presence on the trade show floor and ranged from startups to industry veterans.

The recent show represented an expansion into new demographics with exhibitors such as American Apparel Inc. of Los Angeles, Irvine-based Asics America Corp.’s Onitsuka Tiger line and Swedish denim company Cheap Monday, among others.

Agenda hits Tokyo next week.
