Fountain Valley-based Hyundai Motor America Inc. said its 2015 model Sonata sedan will feature Apple Inc.’s new in-car system.
CarPlay integrates various features from Apple iPhones with a vehicle’s navigation system. It lets drivers use Apple Maps, make calls, see and send text messages and listen to music from a user’s playlist or iTunes Radio, among other features.
CarPlay will begin being offered in 2015 Sonatas with a navigation system later this year and also will be available in select vehicles from Ferrari, Honda, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo this year.
Automakers eventually expected to offer CarPlay include Cypress-based Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc., Irvine-based Kia Motors America Inc. and Suzuki Motor of America Inc.
CarPlay is compatible with the iPhone 5s, 5c and 5 models operating with iOS 7.
