Day Software Inc., a maker of website design software that’s publicly traded in Switzerland with its U.S. headquarters in Newport Beach, said Wednesday it is being acquired by San Jose’s Adobe Systems Inc. for $240 million.
The deal is expected to close during the current quarter.
The company got its start designing, building and maintaining websites for companies.
Today it sells software packages that allow customers to essentially do its job.
Many use it to build websites for the public, internal sites for employees and for special purpose sites for vendors, supplier and managers.
Day was started in Switzerland in 1993 and trades publicly on the Swiss Exchange as Day Software Holding AG.
In 2000, it opened its U.S. headquarters and began trading on an over-the-counter exchange.
Day will operate as a product line within Adobe’s digital enterprise solutions business unit. Chief Executive Erik Hansen is set to join Adobe and report to Adobe Chief Executive Rob Tarkoff, the company said.
Day targets customers in financial services, entertainment, hotels and auto manufacturing.
Some of its biggest automaker customers include Audi AG, Daimler AG, Volkswagen AG, General Motors Co., Nissan Motor Co. and BMW AG.
Other customers include Irvine-based Shimano American Corp., a unit of Japanese bicycle maker Shimano Inc., McDonald’s Corp., Hyatt Hotels Corp. and Williams-Sonoma Inc.
It sees an estimated $50 million in yearly sales.
It’s unclear what’s set to happen to Day’s Newport Beach operations, which have some 30 workers. A spokesperson could not be immediately reached.
