The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped less than 0.1% to 30,958.31.

The Nasdaq decreased less than 0.1% to 13,630.63.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury was unchanged at 1.04%.

The price of gold decreased 0.2% to $1,851.20.

The price for a barrel of oil fell 0.3% to $52.59.

HEALTHCARE

STAAR Surgical Co. (Nasdaq: STAA), a Lake Forest-based implantable lens maker, surged 16% to $104.42 per share for a market cap of $4.8 billion. Staar Surgical will join the S&P MidCap 400, according to an announcement late yesterday in New York.

TECHNOLOGY

Artificial intelligence company Veritone Inc. (Nasdaq: VERI) in Costa Mesa fell 5.7% to $39.25 per share for a market cap of $1.2 billion. Despite the dip, Veritone is still up about 37% since the start of the year and recently was named to the Forbes 2021 list of America’s Best Small-Cap Companies.
