WHO: Benjamin “Ben” Du founded industrial pump maker Flojet Corp. in 1974 and then sold it to ITT Industries in 1999. With wife, Carmela Du, of 58 years, are generous local community benefactors.
WHY: Longtime supporters of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian and members of Hoag Innovators, a Shark Tank-like investment opportunity for Hoag doctors. Ben also served on the Hoag Hospital Foundation board of directors for nine years.
IN THE NEWS: Made $25M gift to Hoag’s $1B campus expansion project in Irvine. Set to open in 2026, Hoag’s expanded Sun Family Campus will be built around the Du Family Hospital Pavilion.
NOTABLE: The couple’s first gift to Hoag in 2015 established the Benjamin & Carmela Du Endowed Chair in Urologic Oncology, which supports breakthroughs in prostate cancer treatment at Hoag. In 2018, they donated $5M, the largest gift to Hoag’s Irvine campus at the time, for the creation of the Benjamin & Carmela Du Emergency Pavilion.
