Orange County management consulting firms increased local consultant count 7.2% to 1,849 and overall employment by nearly 9% to more than 4,400, the Business Journal’s annual list shows.
The top two firms exchanged places: New York-based Deloitte, which has an office in Costa Mesa, rose 18% to 329 workers. It’s also the largest local accounting firm. Consultants at accounting firms are also in the total number of employees on our accounting list (see list, page 31).
Dublin-based No. 2 Accenture, which has an Irvine office, climbed, albeit at a slower pace, pacing the list’s increase at 7.2% to 327.
This week’s list ranks the 41 largest management consulting firms by OC consultants.
Nearly two-thirds of firms reported more consultants this year; six said they cut staff. The rest show no change or didn’t report numbers for the prior year.
Companywide firms grew 6.6% to 1.2 million workers.
Move, Shake
A notable increase came from Blythe Global Advisors—up 38% to 58 consultants. Its Irvine office ranked No. 9 this year, up from No. 12 on last year’s list.
Tevora of Irvine continued its torrid growth, adding 16 consultants for a total of 56, good for No. 10, up from No. 13 last year. Three years earlier, it employed just 16 consultants. The provider of security to computer networks expanded into New York and has boosted companywide headcount 17% to 90.
Tevora was founded by Chief Executive Ray Zadjmool with his wife, Nazy Fouladirad, in 2003. Zadjmool said he expected about $60 million in sales last year and aims for 35% annual revenue growth.
“This is truly a mom and pop company gone wild,” he told the Business Journal last year. “One day we woke up and went, wow!”
The list has one newcomer: No. 35 Smith Dickson of Irvine reported six consultants.
