Fred Diaz has been named chief executive and president of Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. in Cypress.
He starts April 1 and succeeds Ryujiro Kobashi, who will return to Mitsubishi headquarters in Tokyo.
Diaz takes over following the automaker’s October launch of a three-year plan to grow the automaker’s U.S. sales by 30% to 130,000 units per year.
Mitsubishi has increase domestic sales the past five years. Last year, it sold 103,686 cars and trucks–the first time it passed 100,000 units since 2007.
Diaz joined Mitsubishi last year as general manager of performance optimization for global marketing and sales. He previously led Nissan’s North American light-truck and commercial sales operations.
Kia Motors America in Irvine also made changes to its c-suite Wednesday, naming SeungKyu “Sean” Yoon chief executive and president, replacing JangWon “Justin” Sohn.
Last year, Hyundai Motor America in Fountain Valley tapped KyungSoo “Kenny” Lee as chief executive and president.
