Mazda Reports Sales Drop for January

Irvine-based automaker Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) reported total sales of 21,079 vehicles in January, a 16.5% drop from 25,259 sales in January 2021.

Car sales in January were off a bit more than 17% from year-ago levels, while truck sales saw year-over-year declines of a little over 16%.

The dip comes after a record-setting year for Mazda. It said last month that 2021 was its best year in sales since 1994, with a total of 332,756 vehicles sold. That was up 19.2% from 2020 levels.

Mazda ranked No. 2 on the Business Journal’s 2021 list of automakers with a total of 541 employees at its Irvine headquarters. The automaker ended 2021 with a total of 332,756 vehicles sold, showing a 19.2% increase from last year.
