Campaign Celebrates 25 Years of Quiksilver’s Roxy

Quiksilver Inc.’s Roxy division is celebrating its silver anniversary by highlighting achievements of its “most iconic” athletes—Lisa Andersen, Kelia Moniz and Stephanie Gilmore—who have collectively won 12 world surfing titles.

“They are the muses that started not only a brand but a movement for women the World over,” said Roxy on its blog.

The Huntington Beach-based brand released a video about Andersen, who was an inspiration for the ladies board short Quiksilver launched in 1990 and the first female surfer featured on the cover of Surfer Magazine.

The four-time world champion is shown doing what she does best—surfing—as Moniz and Gilmore narrate how Andersen inspired their love for the sport.

A similar spot, released Feb. 5, features Moniz.

New Hyundai Course

Hyundai Motor America Inc. in Fountain Valley hired CBS golf analyst and former PGA Tour player David Feherty as the company’s first “golf ambassador.”

Feherty, who will be making appearances at Hyundai-sponsored golf events, also stars in a series of TV ads in which he offers “driving tips,” including tips on navigation and staying focused.

The ads premiered on Feherty’s show on the Golf Channel this month.

“I think the ads and partnership will resonate with golf fans,” Feherty said in a news release. “They were an absolute blast to film. And who doesn’t love a little bit of witty Irish humor?”

The automaker’s other golf initiatives include title sponsorship of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, creating the Hyundai Invitational, and being the official vehicle of the Humana Challenge and the Farmers Insurance Open.

It spent $474 million on advertising in 2013, according to Advertising Age data.
