Bravo Sports Corp. in Santa Fe Springs bought on undisclosed terms Nutcase Inc. in Portland, Ore., its third acquisition of a sports gear maker within the last 10 months.
It bought Sector 9 in La Jolla, a maker of skateboards, surfboards, snowboards, gear, and accessories, from Billabong International in July. It bought helmet manufacturer Pro-Tec from Dye Precision Inc., both in San Diego in December.
Nutcase will continue in its current location after the deal closes, Bravo Sports said. The deal is expected to help Nutcase improve product design, marketing and sales.
Bravo Sports makes recreational and sporting goods, many under license from Disney, Marvel, Nickelodeon, Tony Hawk and X Games.
“Protection is one of our key areas of growth,” said Leonardo Pais, chief executive of Bravo Sports. “We have been focused on expanding Bravo Sports’ specialty division, and are proud to be able to offer Nutcase as a bicycle helmet for riders of all ages worldwide.”
Bravo said Nutcase’s colorful helmets allow people to express their personality and enjoy biking, motorcycling, snowboarding and water skiing.
The buyer is owned by private-equity firm Transom Capital Group in Los Angeles, which targets middle-market businesses with earnings up to $20 million.
