NB Property in Record $55M Sale

A 3.5-acre Newport Beach property overlooking the harbor sold for an Orange County record of $55 million.

The property has two homes, including “the Big Blue House,” a four-bedroom, 3,500-square-foot home built in the 1930s, and a white, six-bedroom, 7,000-square-foot house built in the 1980s.

“The parcel size and the view were the main selling points,” said Compass real estate agent Rob Giem, who represented the seller. He said the sale price was a county record.

Both Giem and buyer representative Kim Walker of Surterre Properties declined to identify the purchaser of the property, which was bought by a private partnership.

The property doesn’t include a dock, Walker said. The deal closed July 25.

“I’m proud to have represented the buyers,” said Walker, who is originally from New Zealand and has worked in Orange County real estate for the past 15 years.

Compass, a New York-based real estate agency, said on its website that Giem’s last 50 consecutive sales average more than $10 million apiece.

The property was owned by years by the family of Kathryn Wheeler, a great-granddaughter of James Irvine, who founded of the Irvine Ranch.
