The last week of August and the first few days of September proved strong for the coastal luxury real estate market, with three $8 million-plus homes selling on the same day, Aug. 30.
The first week of September was equally strong, with $25 million in high-end home sales between Sept. 1 and 6. A few of the highlights from that period include these:
Double the Deluxe
A double, 6,970-square-foot lot makes this Laguna Beach oceanfront home at 2661 Victoria Drive a rare find in the beach community.
The property sits along a stretch of Victoria Beach with to-the-horizon ocean views and has five bedrooms and six baths, with 6,300 square feet of living space. It sold on Aug. 30 for $10.5 million, under its May asking price of $12 million.
Shauna Covington of Prudential California Realty represented the seller, and Kevin Kanda of Surterre Properties Inc. represented the buyer.
English Garden on the Pacific
This Pelican Hill home brings to mind the restrained elegance of an English manor house, but instead of a carriage house, it has a garage with space for eight cars.
The one-of-a-kind property at 6 Gallery Place in Newport Coast has 10,785 square feet of living space.
It boasts five bedrooms, nine baths and a plethora of rooms that include a movie theater with its own box office, a bar and lounge, gym, wine cellar, office and an oversized kitchen with Viking appliances.
It has built-in shelving and alcoves throughout, as well as coved ceilings, crown moldings carved with unique designs, chandeliers and custom carpeting and marble flooring. Those features—combined with the rose garden and its foliage archways, statuary and covered lounge—complete the feel of an English manor.
The home sold on Aug. 30 for $8.2 million, down from its July asking price of $9 million. Brian Johnson of Teles Properties represented the seller, and Xiaobo Cheng of IRN Realty represented the buyer.
Modern Marvel
The brand-new custom, contemporary home at 1933 Galatea Terrace in Corona del Mar was built by Spinnaker Development and designed with a distinct modern flair.
The sleek, gray-hued walls, stainless-steel touches, stained wood ceilings and floors, wall-to-wall windows, and marble fireplaces convey an up-to-the-minute design aesthetic.
The home, at 5,467 square feet, has five bedrooms and six baths and sits on just over a quarter acre of ocean-view property.
Debbie Millar of HÔM Sotheby’s International Realty represented the seller, and Brian and Jennifer Thomas of Surterre Properties worked with the buyer. The home sold on Aug. 30 for $8 million, under its July asking price of $8.8 million.
View Worthy of a Postcard
The property at 2107 Ocean Way in Laguna Beach is sculpted on the edge of cliffs, a unique location that provides panoramic views, as well as privacy.
Nearly every wall of the modern-style home is made of glass, allowing for unobstructed views from each room.
At 3,200 square feet, the home has an open floor plan, four baths and custom touches, like stainless-steel countertops in the master bathroom, a colored-glass backsplash in the kitchen, and a private walkway canopied by palm trees. The lot size is 5,320 square feet.
The home sold on Aug. 20 for $7.5 million, off its July asking price of $8.2 million. Susan Perryman of Hilton & Hyland represented the seller, and Jim Allensworth of Coldwell Banker Previews International worked with the buyer.
East Coast Touch, West Coast Flair
There is much in the home at 35851 Beach Road that brings to mind a “place in the Hamptons.” From its wrap-around patio in the front to its side natural stone patio with a corner outdoor fireplace to its light-blue siding, it’s easy to picture the Cape Cod-style home on an eastern shore.
It’s located, however, in Dana Point and sold on Sept. 3 for $6.2 million, just under its January asking price of $6.5 million.
The 4,032-square-foot home is on a 10,599-square-foot double lot and has four bedrooms and four baths. It’s in the private, guard-gated community of Capistrano Bay.
Doug Echelberger of the Echelberger Group at Surterre Properties represented the seller, and Charles Chacon of Re/Max All Stars Realty represented the buyer.
Renovation-Ready on the Bay
The waterfront home at 1415 E. Bay Ave. in Newport Beach has endless potential for its new owners.
The 2,284-square-foot home has five bedrooms and four baths and sits on a 5,730-square-foot lot on Peninsula Point in Newport Harbor. It sold on Aug. 22 for $4.8 million—nearly $1 million more than its June asking price.
Real estate agents described it as “vintage.” The home has a wood-burning fireplace, as well as large windows that span the living room wall and look over the water. The rooms are clean and ready for renovation.
Robert Koop of Tekoop Properties Inc. represented the seller, and broker Stephen Mitchell represented the buyer.
