Glidewell founder James Glidewell has added to his already sizeable real estate portfolio around John Wayne Airport through a recent office acquisition.
Glidewell’s office and manufacturing portfolio near the airport runs some 500,000 square feet, encompassing “the largest dental technology campus in the world,” according to Glidewell, the world’s largest privately owned provider of restorative dental implants. The company was profiled in the July 26 print edition of the Business Journal.
The latest addition to the campus came about a month ago, when Glidewell paid $10.8 million for a 24,000-square-foot office at the busy intersection of Von Karman Avenue and Michelson Drive.
The one-story office at 2300 Michelson Drive is next to some of the company’s other area facilities; Glidewell owns much of the real estate on the western side of Von Karman Avenue, between Michelson and Dupont Drive. Sources indicate Glidewell will occupy the newly bought building.
The dental company’s roughly 1,500 employee count in the airport area now exceeds that of Allergan Aesthetics, whose campus is on the opposite side of Von Karman Avenue.
Glidewell ranks No. 1 on the Business Journal’s list of Dental Cos. by employee count.
USC Seller
CBRE’s Anthony DeLorenzo, Gary Sta-che, Doug Mack, Bryan Johnson, John Weiner, Rocky Binswanger and David Freitag represented the seller, the University of Southern California, which currently occupies the just-sold building.
“The property’s central location provides irreplaceable access to Orange County’s most prestigious and coveted business corridors,” DeLorenzo said.
“According to our forecasts, OC is projected to add 68,000 new jobs over the next five years with rent growth projected to be among the highest in the country,” DeLorenzo added. “That makes high-quality, strategically located office buildings such as this highly coveted among investors.”
The office was built in 1975 and is located on a 2-acre lot, next to the Trade food hall and retail center along Michelson Drive.
USC bought the property in 2002 and has since used the site for its Orange County center.
Glidewell is a graduate of Orange Coast College’s dental program.
