Projects, developments and other activity in cities in and around OC

IRVINE

Work is under way on a renovation of Tuttle-Click Automotive Group’s Ford dealership near Bake Parkway and the San Diego (I-5) Freeway. The plan calls for a makeover of the customer lounge, the sales showroom, offices, parts department and service area. Construction crews are lowering the foundation of the showroom, which originally was built on a platform. It also will add a cafe for employees and customers. The contractor is San Juan Capistrano-based Gordon L. Mountjoy & Associates Inc. Irvine-based Tuttle-Click Automotive Group also is working on renovation plans for its adjacent Mazda dealership. Construction at Tuttle Click Ford is expected to finish this year. Costs weren’t disclosed.

TUSTIN

A parking structure is planned for the Tustin Metrolink Station near Edinger Avenue and Jamboree Road. The design calls for a six-story, 250,000-square-foot structure with 732 parking stalls. A solar canopy is set to provide shade for the top level and generate electricity for the structure. The building is expected to cost $12.3 million and nearly double the available parking spaces at the station. Anaheim-based Bomel Construction Co. is the contractor. The architect is Redwood City-based Watry Design Inc. Rosendin Electric in San Jose is set to install the solar canopy.

LAKE FOREST

Two stores are under construction at Trabuco and El Toro roads. A Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market and a Walgreen pharmacy are to be built on space previously home to a Vons supermarket. Both stores are set to be about 27,000 square feet. The remaining stores in the 7.4-acre complex are getting facelifts and are open until construction is done. Other tenants include Bank of America Corp., Friar Tux Shop, and Lamppost Pizza. The plan also calls for landscaping and gazebos in the parking lot. The contractor is Irvine-based W.L. Butler Construction Inc. The developer is Irvine-based Business Properties. Construction is expected to finish this month. Costs weren’t disclosed.

A McDonald’s restaurant is being renovated on El Toro Road east of the San Diego (I-5) Freeway. The plan calls for a 200-square-foot expansion, for a total of 2,570 square feet. The restaurant is closed while construction crews update the interior and rebuild the facade. It is set to have a 24-hour drive-through and 107-person capacity. The contractor is Orange-based PR Construction Inc. The architect is ATC Design Group in San Diego. Isabelle Villasenor of Dejon Enterprises Inc., a McDonald’s franchisee, is the owner of the land and business. Costs weren’t disclosed. Construction is slated to finish this month.

FULLERTON

A renovation and expansion of the Fullerton Public Library in the city’s downtown is nearly complete. The existing 50,000-square-foot building is being upgraded with 6,000 square feet added. Upgrades include a technology area and self-checkout machines. The additional space will be for a community room and a cafe. The project is expected to finish in June. Irvine-based LPA Inc. is the architect. The construction manager is the Orange County office of San Francisco-based Swinerton Builders. Laguna Beach-based Griffin Structures Inc. is the project manager. The expected cost is $10 million.
